Dear Parents/Guardians,
Following correspondence received from the Mayo Schoolboys/Girls League, we wish to clarify the current position regarding Mayo FC Academy.
The League has informed all clubs that it has received complaints about an “invitation” issued by Mayo FC inviting players to join a Mayo FC Academy. The League has stated that this approach is not permitted. All players are currently registered with their respective clubs and the League, and under Football Association of Ireland regulations, a player may only be registered with one club at any given time.
Furthermore, attendance at any training sessions, trials, or activities with another FAI-affiliated entity requires prior permission from both the player’s club and the League. The League has confirmed that no such permission will be granted for players to attend academies operating outside its structures.
The League has also advised that:
- Players are adequately provided for within their current clubs and league structures.
- Any player attending such external academy sessions will not be covered by League or club insurance.
- Players may also be subject to suspension from football within the League.
In line with this directive, Westport United FC wishes to make it clear that players are not permitted to attend or participate in any sessions, trials, or activities with Mayo FC Academy.
Please note that any player who does so:
- Will not be covered by club or League insurance
- May face suspension from the Mayo Schoolboys/Girls League
- Will consequently forfeit their membership with Westport United FC
We strongly encourage all parents and players to be aware of these regulations. If you have any questions or require clarification, please do not hesitate to contact the club.
Thank you for your continued support.
