Following on from the historic win witnessed in the Sports Park on Saturday by the U.14 girls in the WFAI Girls U.14 Cup, more big cup football comes to the iconic Horkan’s Hill venue this Sunday as the U.14’s takes on Ennis Town in the last 32 of the Skechers SFAI Cup, and it’s a competition that this particular group have done well over the years, including being U.12 semi finalists in 2017.
Westport comes into the tie on the back of an excellent 2-0 win against Merville United in the Regional final last weekend. In the main competition, Westport had comfortable wins over Corrib Celtic and Tuam Celtic before overcoming two of Galway’s powerhouses, Mervue United (3-1) and Salthill Devon (2-0) to reach the last 32.
Ennis Town have reached this point on the virtue of a 3-1 win against Lough Derg FC in an all Clare fixture before advancing on penalties following a thrilling 4-4 draw away to Inter Kenmare and advanced to this stage with another win against Kerry opposition, this time a 3-0 win over Listowel Celtic.
While Westport have a deserved reputation at a national level over the last few years, Ennis Town FC are an unknown quantity and a side that cannot be taken lightly and the home team will have to be at their best to earn themselves a place in the last 16.
Kick off at the Sports Park on Sunday is at 2:00 and a large crowd is expected to attend this captivating cup tie and every bit of support would be appreciated.
