Westport United return to Connaught Cup action this Sunday after what has been a very difficult fortnight in what will be an emotionally charged occasion at United Park as they take on Carbury FC in their refixed Connaught Cup tie
United refocused following the sad events recently and have been intensely concentrating on this hugely important knockout match with intensive preparations, whilst not forgetting about their dearly loved team mate. It has to be said that both sides are no strangers to each other; they both met in the Connaught Champions League Cup semi final last August with Carbury edging the match 2-1.
The club is once again appealing to the Red and Black Army to come out in huge numbers like the recent FAI Junior Cup match, not just on a footballing level but an emotional one also given the solidarity that was witnessed in recent times. The players have personally stated that the vocal support really drove them on in the last game and they appreciate the same level of encouragement once again.
A huge crowd is expected in United Park for this massive cup tie and what would be the most emotional game of football played in this town in living memory with kick off at 2:00 on Sunday. Please support your local club.
