It's hard to believe that it's one month since the sad passing of our dear footballer, clubmate and friend, Adam Mulchrone and he is still sadly missed and lovingly remembered by us all here at Westport United FC.
Westport United FC would like to make a few acknowledgements on behalf of our own football family. Westport United would like to thank all the clubs and individuals that posted messages of sympathy on our social media platforms and to those who tendered their own personal sympathies to our own club members privately. The club was very moved by your heartfelt response in the days after Adam's passing. Many thanks to members of the wider football family that attended the repose at McGing's Funeral Home and the Funeral Mass and burial and to all those who sympathised with our club members. We remember all who attended from various football clubs with some travelling long distances. We thank the representatives from the Mayo Association Football League, Connacht Football Association and the Football Association of Ireland for their attendance also.
The club would like to thank our members who visited the Mulchrone family during their bereavement and to our own supporters who sympathised with the family. A huge thanks to our members who formed a Guard of Honour as Adam was brought home from McGing's Funeral Home and also on the day of the funeral. Many thanks to Liam Campion of O'Connor's SuperValu for organising tea and coffee for our club members that were outside McGing's Funeral Home. Thanks to our own club members who took part in the liturgical part of the Funeral Mass. Many thanks to the Mulchrone family for inviting Adam's team mates, management and backroom staff and club officials for an absolutely beautiful meal afterwards in the Castlecourt Hotel.
The first match back was always going to be a difficult game and it was a hurdle for us all to cross. Many thanks to the match officials that facilitated the pausing of the match on the 27th minute for that emotional minute's applause and also thanks to Carbury FC for that lovely and touching pennant that was presented to the club and also thanks to our supporters who were there for the players that day.
The general public had nothing but high praise for our members during that week and many tanks to everyone who conducted themselves with sensitivity and dignity. Also many thanks to the local and national media for the sensitive manner they conducted Adam's passing on the press and radio.
Finally, just to inform our club members that Adam's Months Mind Mass takes place in Saint Mary's Church, Westport on Sunday morning 3rd March at 10:00am.
